Challenge: Increase organic traffic and improve search engine rankings for key product categories by building links through contacting the most dominant websites related to the store’s products, and building backlinks from them.
Project Execution
After emailing every dominant website in the related gaming niches, we got an offer from Rustlabs.com, the most visited website in the game:Rust. The domain is 4 years old, has over 400k monthly visitors mostly from the US and GB, an Ahrefs domain rating of 45, close to 1000 completely relevant and organic backlinks. The requested payment is 2k $ a month in exchange for promoting the store with multiple site-wide backlinks.
The decision was made to accept the offer, and both parties carried through their commitments.
Results
Immediately after receiving the backlink promotion, the store started receiving 200 visitors a day, producing over 300$ revenue daily.
For SEO, the site stood at 16th position on google for the most valuable buyer intent keywords, such as “buy Rust skins”, receiving almost no traffic from search engines. After 6 weeks the position suddenly jumped from 16th to 5th, and to 2nd over the next few weeks, resulting in 200 daily organic search visitors solely for buyer intent, highly related keywords. The same amount of clicks costed us 200$+ through our PPC campaign for the game, at 1$+ CPC. Thus, the value of the extra organic traffic was similar to advertising for 6k $ a month for the related keywords. Overall, the extra profit provided by the promotion exceeded 10k $ monthly.
Conclusion
A single organic backlink from the right source can occasionally boost a website from poor positions to the top for the most competitive and valuable, buyer intent searches.
Our suggestion – If you have the opportunity to receive a similar promotion, it is reasonable to give it a chance, and see how it performs in the first few months, unless the cost is very overpriced. Permanent decision about long-term investment can be made after a few months, once the effects of the promotions are clear.
